Most
people go to Whole Foods Market and come back with some fresh fruit, quinoa and
kale tucked happily into their eco-friendly shopping bags. Not me. One
dreary London morning the universe decided that nothing less than a
life-changing self-realisation would be good enough for me to take home that
day.
And
so it was in the middle of a Whole Foods Market aisle in Kensington that the
plot changer hit me. “Crap,” I thought. “I’ve really stuffed up this whole
‘taking care of my health and wellness’ thing.” And while we can all be little
hard on ourselves sometimes, in this instance I’d hit the nail on the head.
You
see, after
stocking my CV up with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications
followed by years of experience working in the same field within the financial
services industry, I had packed up my flip-flops and ventured over to the
mother country.
Far
from being concerned about any vague concept of health and wellbeing, I spent
my time worrying about scrounging up enough cash for flights to take me to exotic
new European destinations on my time off. Providing my body with healthy (and
what I thought was super expensive)
fuel was the least of my concerns. But after a few years of mistreatment,
my mind and body had apparently had enough.
Which
is how, on one otherwise unremarkable day in the middle of Whole Foods, I came
to make a vow that would completely transform my life: to begin honoring and
nurturing my body the way it truly deserved to be.
I
dived deep into the ancient art of Ayurveda and even ventured off to India on
my own to be mentored on its history and application. I deepened my yoga
practice and undertook yoga training in Bali. And to nourish my mind, I
explored all things positive psychology and began a daily gratitude practice. Finally,
I kick-started my studies as a health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
All
of these experiences and learnings gently directed my flip-flops onto an
entirely different life path than what I’d ventured out on many years
before.
Today,
I’m a marketing and communications
specialist in the health and wellness space and my spare time is filled creating a sense of community, encouraging people to follow their passions and living a lifestyle aligned with their true essences. I believe strongly in finding a balance, a self-care advocate and I have a wholehearted appreciation for the beauty and
gratitude to be found on a daily basis.
I
also manage the social media for not-for-profit organisation the 10thousandgirlcampaign (a program dedicated to women’s financial literacy and helping women
achieve their life goals).
I’m currently coordinating several high-vibing wellness
events, health and wellness collaborations and am on a mission to inspire and
empower earthlings across Australia to honour, respect and take charge of their
holistic wellbeing.
I’m
also a passionate writer and in addition to writing for a number of publications and blogs.
When
I’m not freelancing, studying and working on my many side projects, I can be
found exploring healthy cafes + restaurants, whipping up my own nourishing
recipes at home and basking in the Australian sunshine.
